Police: Hydroponic laboratory found in home

MIAMI - A suspect was arrested Wednesday after a hydroponic marijuana lab was found in a Miami-Dade home, police said.

Miami-Dade police said detectives were trying to make contact with a homeowner at 6644 SW 61st St. on Wednesday morning when resident Michael Carrero, 38, of Miami, left the home through a back door.

Police said Carrero returned to the home and barricaded himself inside. Officers with guns drawn surrounded the home.

Nearby South Miami Middle School was placed on lockdown for more than an hour.

Carrero later surrendered to police. He faces charges of cultivating marijuana and resisting without violence.

Investigators said they found a hydroponic marijuana laboratory in the home.
