TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Former U.S Rep. David Rivera plans to run for his former seat in Congress, he told Local 10 News Thursday night.

Rivera filed to run for South Florida's 26th District House seat in person Friday in Tallahassee.

The Republican was defeated by Democrat Joe Garcia in 2012.

Earlier this week, a close associate of Rivera's was denied bail for a second time on charges she violated federal campaign finance laws.

Ana Alliegro is accused of illegally funneling more than $80,000 to the 2012 Democratic U.S. House primary campaign of Justin Lamar Sternad.

Sternad, who ran against Garcia in the race, has pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations and is cooperating with prosecutors.

Rivera has denied any wrongdoing.
