The spraying will go on at 8 p.m. Friday, weather permitting, county officials said in a news release.

Aerial spraying is scheduled to take place over Homestead, Florida City, Redland, West Kendall, and areas east of U.S. 1 from Southwest 248th Street to the Rickenbacker Causeway, covering parts of Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay, South Miami, Coral Gables, Pinecrest and Miami.

The aerial spraying is focused on targeting the Black Salt Marsh mosquito, which is most active at night.

The Black Salt Marsh mosquito is different than the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which can carry the Zika virus, Dengue fever and other extreme viruses, but it can also transmit pathogens to humans and other animals.

County officials ask residents to do their part in combating the mosquitoes by draining standing water and cover items that collect water.
