Police say the girl disappeared Thursday at Scarlett's Dance Studio by The Falls mall. They say she had an argument with her mother and left her cellphone, along with the rest of her belongings, inside the studio.
Macias had last been seen inside a Publix supermarket with another person after being reported missing. She left after renting a movie from a Redbox machine.
Police never believed she was endangered.
The effort to find Macias escalated on social media with South Floridians, including U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., re-posting the flyer about Macias' disappearance.
Zabaleta says the Miami-Dade Police Department's missing persons unit exhausted all of its resources to find the teen.
