Police confront, shoot driver possibly tied to deadly robbery

Vicki Feeley killed Saturday; officers continue to investigate

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – When police went to a trailer park Wednesday, looking for information on who killed a woman in a weekend robbery, officers found a vehicle that might have been involved in the crime, investigators said.

When they confronted the driver associated with the silver pickup truck, he rammed an undercover officer's patrol car, police said.

Officers were also on foot in the area, and police opened fire on the man. He was shot and then taken to Jackson South Community Hospital. He’s expected to survive, police said.

"We heard the gun shots, pop, pop, pop, like 16 times," a woman who lives in the area said. "We saw all the police over there, and then they said, 'You all have to go back, you got to go back.'"

New leads in the Kendall-area killing led police to conduct surveillance at the trailer park. Officers were looking specifically for the vehicle involved in Saturday night's homicide. They spotted what they believed to be the vehicle, approached the driver and that’s when the violent confrontation ensued.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate, which is standard in an officer-involved shooting. No further details have been released in Wednesday’s incident at the trailer park.

Vicki Feeley, 65, was the victim in last weekend’s attack. She died at a hospital after a struggle with the robber in her driveway just after 8 p.m., near Southwest 112th Terrace and 128th Court in southwest Miami-Dade County. Some people in the community said Feeley was run over by the robber, but police haven’t confirmed if that was the case.
