The victim told Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies that Hunt started hitting him after he refused to give him a cigarette. The bartender helped to break up the fight.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Hunt told deputies that the other man had attacked him, but deputies said witnesses identified Hunt as the attacker.

Deputies notified Monroe County Fire Chief James Callahan, who said Hunt could face disciplinary action.

"I am disappointed," Callahan said in a statement. "We hold our firefighters to a higher standard and this type of behavior is not tolerated. There will be consequences."
