WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The family of Perry Cohen, one of the two Jupiter teenagers who disappeared at sea in 2015, has been cleared to file a lawsuit against the family of Austin Stephanos, according to federal court documents.

Cohen and Stephanos disappeared during a fishing trip after telling a friend that they'd planned to go to the Bahamas, according to a December 2016 court document.

There have been tensions among the two families since the disappearance took place, and the latest chapter in their battle took place Monday when U.S. District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas lifted an injunction that kept Pamela and Philip Cohen from suing Stephanos' mother, Carly Black.

"The parties are directed to file a status report informing the court of the status of the related state court proceedings every 90 days, starting from the date of this order," the ruling said.

WPTV in West Palm Beach reported that the Cohen family plans to sue next week and that Black has already filed a federal lawsuit in anticipation of being sued.
