NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Police are looking for an older model pickup truck they believe hit and killed a man in North Miami Monday night.
A driver hit and killed 75-year-old Lefevre Charles at North Miami Avenue and 123rd Road about 6:55 p.m., police say. The driver then left the scene.
Police believe the two-toned pickup truck has glass headlights and front-end damage.
"I feel bad about that. I need something to be done," said Jerry Charles, the victim's son.
Charles said his father was enjoying retirement and visiting friends in North Miami when he was killed.
"That's my dad and I loved him so much and he do a lot for me sot hat affect me a lot," he said.
"But it's different than if he would have had a heart attack," said Local 10's Roger Lohse.
"Yes, because you know that's a heart attack that kill him, not somebody hit him and run, you know," said Charles.
Surveillance video showed a vehicle hit Charles as he crossed the street.
In the video, the driver of the pickup truck briefly hits the brakes, police say.
"The brake lights are very important because to the investigators, it indicates the person driving that pickup believes he hit someone or something, slowed down for a period of time, but then continued on," said North Miami police major Neal Cuevas.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, officers statewide investigated nearly 77,000 hit-and-run crashes last year. Officials say those crashes injured 17,000 people and killed 168.
