NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Arson investigators were called out to a building on the corner of Northeast 1st Avenue and 168th Street Monday morning, after a fire destroyed a North Miami Beach duplex.
Neighbors called 911 after hearing a small explosion. More than 30 firefighters responded to the call.
Firefighters arrived to find the
six people who lived in the duplex had managed to get out safely. Investigators say they found a gas tank used for welding inside one of the units.
The heavy smoke could be seen as far away as Miami Gardens Drive and I-95.
FPL crews cut power to the immediate area as a precaution.
Power has since been restored.
The Red Cross is helping those displaced by the fire.
