Pregnant woman shot, killed in Miami Gardens

Child delivered prematurely in critical condition

MIAMI – A pregnant woman was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in Miami Gardens, and now her child remains in critical condition.

The shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Northwest 32nd Avenue near Northwest 182nd Street.

Police said Qualecia James, 21, was in a silver sedan when an unknown vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire before driving off.

When police arrived, officers found James in the bullet-riddled car. She was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Leroy James told Local 10 his daughter was seven months pregnant and already was the mother of a 4-year-old girl.

Police said the baby boy remains in the neonatal unit at the hospital.
