DANIA BEACH, Fla. - City commissioners in Dania Beach remain deadlocked over filling an empty seat after Pat Flury resigned in June.
Flury's resignation led to Commissioners Al Jones and Chickie Brandimarte to walk out of the meeting. The commission has since missed a 60-day deadline to replace Flury.
"I'm getting sick and tired of always having to come here to do a rerun like this is a television reality show," Brandimarte said during a recent meeting.
"It looks like we've got a lack of willingness to compromise at all up here," said Mayor Walter Duke.
Duke offered to draw names out of a hat, but the idea was shot down.
"There's a $40 million budget at stake with 30,000 residents right now," he said. "We have a vacant seat that you all are paying for and there's nobody in it."
"The citizens are a little upset that they can't come to some kind of agreement and elect a fifth commissioner," said Dania Beach resident Jeff Hanson. "People are tired of the rhetoric. They want some action. They want a commissioner up there."
The next commission meeting is scheduled for August 27.
