SLS Hotel South Beach offers free rooms to officers during Urban Beach Weekend

10 police officers receive accommodations during Memorial Day weekend

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A luxury boutique hotel in South Beach is helping Miami Beach police officers, who are working longer shifts this weekend because of  Urban Beach Weekend. 

The SLS Hotel South Beach is accommodating 10 police officers during Urban Beach Week, the hotel's marketing manager Laura Clery said Friday.

"I'm glad they are helping us," Miami Beach Tourism Director Michael Allen, known as Mr. Miami Beach, said. 

Miami Beach Police said there are no restrictions for the officers to accept local businesses' hospitality. Hotel rooms at SLS cost up to $870 a night, according to the hotel's website.

Miami Beach authorities expect about 200,000 tourists this weekend and are allocating about 400 police officers to secure the area. Police arrested 51 people between 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon.

Tourists began arriving Thursday for Urban Beach Week.
