KEY WEST, Fla. - The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for an Alaska man who set out on a boat in Fort Myers and never arrived in Key West, where he was expected.
The Coast Guard received a distress radio beacon from 40-year-old Jay Rydberg's boat early Tuesday. The signal came from the 39-foot Trimaran some 30 miles north of Key West.
Officials contacted one of Rydberg's friends, who told them he sailed from Fort Myers on Monday and was set to arrive in Key West on Tuesday.
The Seventh Coast Guard District launched a cutter and air crew from Miami to search for Rydberg, of Fairbanks, Alaska. There was no word on the search early Wednesday.
