Miguel Pilotos shot, killed outside supermarket

DORAL, Fla. – Miami-Dade police on Thursday released surveillance video showing a gunman fatally shoot a 71-year-old man during an attempted robbery.

A robber shot Miguel Pilotos in the parking lot of a supermarket in the 13900 block of Northwest 27th Avenue in Opa-locka on Aug. 21. He was pronounced dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

In the video, the robber walks in and out of the supermarket. He circles Pilotos on his bicycle, stops as Pilotos gets into his car, pulls out a gun, then shoots him and rides off.

"I think he was stalked as prey and selected by this individual. I think this individual's a predator and a danger to the community," said Miami-Dade Police Det. Nick Pimentel.

Family members of Pilotos spoke to news media at Miami-Dade Police Department headquarters in Doral on Thursday morning, asking for help finding his killer.

"Someone know him (the gunman). Don't freak out. Call the police and let them know," said Roberto Pilotos, the victim's nephew. "It's not going to be easy to take the time to recover this situation."

Pilotos, a retired father of two, liked to play dominoes with friends, said his family.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
