Drivers expected to be OK after crash on Florida's Turnpike

Truck tumbles on top of car

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A truck and car were hardly recognizable after a crash on Florida's Turnpike early Friday morning, but both drivers avoided serious injury.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the turnpike near Northwest 215th Street.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the truck lost control, causing the truck to tumble on top of the car.

Miramar Fire-Rescue crews extricated the car's driver from the mangled wreckage. The man, identified as Alejandro Ferrer, 60, of Miami, was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, but he was expected to survive.

The driver of the truck, identified as Ariel Valdes, 34, of Hialeah, wasn't injured.

Northbound lanes of the turnpike were closed in the area during the morning rush hour but have since reopened.
