Anthony Mason was elected to the NBA All-Star Game as a member of the Miami Heat in 2001.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Former Miami Heat forward Anthony Mason died Saturday morning after battling congestive heart failure.

The 13-year NBA veteran was diagnosed earlier this month and underwent several surgeries.

Mason was elected for the 2001 All-Star game while he was a member of the Miami Heat, but he was best known for helping the New York Knicks reach the 1994 NBA Finals.

Mason was 48 years old.
