Former city commissioner pleads guilty

Cynthia Hutchinson sentenced to four months in jail

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A former Fort Lauderdale city commissioner pleaded guilty to three public corruption charges.

Broward County Circuit Court Judge Michael Robinson sentenced Cynthia Hutchinson to four months in jail and five years probation.

Hutchinson pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful compensation and two counts of official misconduct.

According to an arrest warrant, Hutchinson accepted work from subcontractors at the direction of a developer of two projects in her district that she voted for. She then failed to list the $14,000 in gifts on state-required gift-disclosure forms.

Hutchinson must report to jail on April 15. She must also pay a $1,500 fine.
