Search continues for former Davie teacher accused of sexual assault

Tariq Ahmed taught middle, high school students at Nur-Ul-Islam Academy

DAVIE, Fla. ā€“ Authorities continued their search Saturday for a former teacher at a private Muslim K-12 school in Davie, who's accused of sexually assaulting numerous students.

The website for Nur-Ul-Islam Academy lists Tariq Ahmed as a middle and high school staff member.

Pembroke Pines police said the alleged incidents occurred between 2006-2008. The investigation has since been turned over to the Broward State Attorney's Office.

On Friday, the school's attorney released a statement from the school's board of directors which read in part, "These allegations relate to alleged acts of the teacher six to eight years ago, which did not occur on the school's premise, concerning at least one former student of the Academy. Upon learning of these allegations, the Academy immediately suspended the teacher's employment, barred him from any further contact with Academy students and has since terminated his employment with the Academy."
