Former restaurant owner charged in fatal crash in Miami

Jonathan Eismann charged with vehicular homicide for Oct. 2012 crash

MIAMI – Police have arrested a 51-year-old man who hit and killed a pedestrian in northwest Miami-Dade.

The crash happened at Northwest 3rd Street and 72nd Avenue about 8:47 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2012.

According to police, Jonathan Eismann, 51, was driving a Ford Explorer when he was involved in a crash with a Nissan Sentra at Northwest 1st Terrace and 72nd Avenue.

As Eismann tried to flee the crash scene, he lost control and hit and killed Juan Carlos Ruiz, 29, who was walking on the sidewalk, police said.

Eismann was injured when his SUV hit a power pole. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Saturday morning, police arrested Eismann and was charged with vehicular homicide in a reckless manner and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. Police said Eismann's bond is set at $16,000.

Eismann is a former South Florida business man who once owned a handful of restaurants.
