Fort Lauderdale Strikers get goalkeeper on loan

Richard Sanchez loaned from FC Dallas

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have received U-20 Mexican national team goalkeeper Richard Sanchez on loan from FC Dallas.

Sanchez began training with the Strikers on Tuesday ahead of the fall campaign, which begins Aug. 3.

"We are thrilled to receive such a talented goalkeeper for the fall season," said head coach Günter Kronsteiner. "Richard will help solidify our defense."

"I believe that Richard needed to play," added FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo. "After playing in the Under-20 World Cup with Mexico, he is at the stage where coming here and sitting on the bench is not going to help his development."

Sanchez recently returned from the FIFA U-20 World Cup with Mexico, helping his country advance from the group stage before they were eliminated by Spain in the Round of 16.

Sanchez helped Mexico win the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup, defeating Uruguay 2-0 in the final. He signed with FC Dallas as a Homegrown player in 2011.
