Fort Lauderdale's Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill to close, make upgrades

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill will close its doors from July through September as it undergoes upgrades and an overall brand transformation.

The establishment at 1555 SE 17th Street, which has been a staple in the community for more than 25 years, will reopen in October as a new waterside dining concept under the direction of South Florida Hospitality Group and The Restaurant People as part of a joint venture with the property's current owner, Fort Lauderdale-based Hudson Capital Group.

"There are few options for waterfront dining in Fort Lauderdale, and even fewer that have been around as long as Bimini Boatyard," said Steve Hudson, the president and CEO of HCG. "Tim (Petrillo) and his partners at The Restaurant People continuously deliver fresh new dining concepts to the market that speak to customers and keep them coming back for more. I am thrilled to have them on board to oversee the reinvention of the existing space and this exciting new venture."

While details of the concept have not yet been released, the companies taking part in the redevelopment said a major focus will be on the outdoor patio and seating area, and the onsite dockage.

"This is a prime location and waterfront destination in Fort Lauderdale," said Petrillo. "Our goal with the reinvention of the establishment is to stay ahead of the curve and meet the needs of today's customers. We believe that people will be quite pleased with the result."
