Galleria mall food court misleading public about rodent issue

Employee says management put up 'water problem' sign after food court ordered shut

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – An employee at the Galleria mall says the public is being mislead by management of the Piazza Di Giorgio Café also known as the mall's food court.

The employee, who asked not to be identified, sent Local 10 News a picture of a sign that was put up after the food court area was ordered shut.

The sign indicates a "water problem."

But according to state records, the Piazza Di Giorgio was ordered shut because of a continued rodent issue.

Among the violations found Wednesday: "Observed one Dead rodent under equipment at sushi station, 2 dead roaches in dish area under shelf and one dead roach in prep area under table."

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed about 50 fresh rodent droppings behind Pizza oven in pizza station. Observed gnawed pizza card board boxes in same area."

The state also ordered the same place shut for similar violations last month. Mall management tells Local 10 News they did not put the signs up.

The Piazza Di Giorgio café is operated and leased by Siganos Management of Northfield, New Jersey.
