DORAL, Fla. – Two workers were injured Friday afternoon when a garage under construction at Miami Dade College in Doral partially collapsed.
Investigators told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that a concrete beam fell on the workers about 2:45 p.m. at Miami Dade College's West Campus.
The garage was being constructed to replace one that collapsed in October 2012, killing four workers.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said one person suffered a leg injury in the collapse.
Sky 10 was above the scene as rescuers used a ladder truck to lower the victim from the third floor of the garage. The worker was then placed into the back of a waiting ambulance and taken to a hospital.
Both victims were expected to survive.
The original garage was under construction when it collapsed four years ago. One worker's body was found in the rubble a week later. It was dismantled and was being rebuilt in the same location.
Miami Dade College won a $33 million settlement last year with the contractor and subcontractors of the garage that collapsed in 2012. That money was used to help pay for the new garage.
"Because it is Friday, there are not many classes taking place or many people around," Miami Dade College spokeswoman Hessy Fernandez said in a statement. "Classes and operations have not been impacted. The campus is open."
