'Gator Boy' bit trapping alligator

Paul Bedard bit in calf, recovering at Broward Health Medical Center

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 10-foot alligator bit one of the stars of the television show "Gator Boys" Thursday morning.

Jimmy Rifle said the gator bit Paul Bedard in the calf. He was listed in good condition at the Broward Health Medical Center.

"I suffered a minor alligator bite and am being treated for an infection," Bedard said in a statement. "I've been bitten over 30 times and this happens when you have a job like mine. Thank you for your thoughts and well wishes."

It's unclear if the bite was videotaped. The production company was shooting in Hollywood and Bedard wasn't on the shooting schedule.

"Yeah, he has been bit before. We all have. I have been bit seven times," said Rifle. "I got all my fingers."

Animal Planet issued a statement, saying: "We are aware of Paul Bedard's injury from a gator bite and understand he is being treated for an infection, but know very little information beyond that. Paul is an important part of the Animal Planet family and our thoughts are with him, but we can not comment on his personal medical situation."
