Prosecutors want to prevent the jury from hearing claims that George Zimmerman followed the law when he shot Trayvon Martin Feb. 26, 2012.
In a motion filed Monday, prosecutor John Guy argued “opinions about an ultimate fact such as guilt or innocence of a defendant are inadmissible” in court.
During a deposition June 29, defense witness Dennis Root, a retired law enforcement officer, opined on the legality of Zimmerman's decision to kill Trayvon.
Root said Zimmerman was "reasonable in his use of deadly force," did not break the law and "exhibited restraint."
Judge Debra Nelson has yet to rule on the matter.
