DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - A South Florida dermatologist is using the golden ratio to map out beautiful faces.
From art to architecture, some of the most appealing structures in the world are measured by the golden ration -- approximately 1.618, represented by the Greek letter "phi."
"Symmetry is important but actually being proportional is even more important," said Dr. Janet Allenby, a dermatologist.
Allenby is using phi to build beautiful faces. She uses calipers to follow the golden ratio, a form of facial mapping that allows her to fine tune the application of injectables like Botox and fillers.
"This is a way we can actually measure faces and see what people need and that way they're not overfilled," she said. "Nothing is worse than seeing somebody's lips come in the room and then their head follows them."
While many people look in a mirror and pick apart certain features, facial mapping focuses on a bigger picture.
"It makes so much sense but I've never seen anything like that before," said one patient.
"This is a way to actually use less product and put it in the right places," added Allenby.
