MIAMI - The U.S. Coast Guard says a person was rescued near Lake Worth Inlet when a good Samaritan in a nearby condo called authorities after seeing a diver in the ocean waving his hands for help.

Coast Guard Sector Miami watch-standers received a report of the diver missing from the vessel, and launched a rescue crew from Station Lake Worth Inlet and diverted a helicopter crew to assist the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office with the search.

Authorities said the diver was reported last seen one nautical mile southeast of Lake Worth Inlet. Sector Miami watch-standers also issued an alert after he failed to surface at his scheduled time.

A PBSO marine unit responded to the diver's reported location and recovered him from the water with no reported injuries. The diver was returned to his boat.

The Coast Guard said it would like to remind divers to follow safety procedures and to follow planned dive schedules to help prevent search and rescue emergencies. For more information about diving safety, click here.
