Gov. Rick Scott announces 2014 tax holiday

If approved, tax holiday will begin June 1

MIAMI – Florida Governor Rick Scott used the backdrop of Miami's Shell Lumber and Hardware to announce his plans for a 15-day hurricane sales tax holiday for the 2014 Hurricane season.

The Governor made the announcement on Monday with his new Lieutenant Governor designate by his side, former Miami Dade Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez Cantera.

Scott plans to include it in his 2014-2015 " It's Your Money Tax Cut Budget." But it has to be approved by the legislature.

If approved the tax holiday will begin June 1st .

Some of the items in the tax exempt status include: portable lights, tarps, radios, first aid kits, generators, batteries, coolers and storage containers for gasoline.
