TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida Gov. Rick Scott appointed Mark Porter as the new Monroe County School Superintendent on Wednesday.

Porter, 56, has worked in public education for 32 years. He previously held several leadership positions within South Washington County Schools, including director, assistant superintendent and superintendent from 2000 to 2012.

His appointment ends January 7, 2013.
