Preston somehow escaped from the back seat of an Opa-locka police car while the officer who was driving her to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center was stopped at a red light at Northwest 37th Avenue and Northwest 135th Street, Dobson said.

The chief said Preston was still in handcuffs when she escaped. Dobson said the officer chased after Preston but lost track of her.

A perimeter was established and, with the help of the Miami-Dade Police Department, Preston was eventually found.

Dobson said he doesn't know how Preston, who was arrested on a domestic violence charge, was able to get out of the car. He said the investigation is ongoing.
