In the courtyard were 20 banners that included the names of each student who was affected by Charlton, ranging from the class of 2003 to the class of 2022.

Charlton spoke at the event, thanking her parents for helping her in her success.

"They taught me that I could do anything. Everything was within my reach – I mean, everything. What an amazing gift that was to a daughter," Charlton said.

In the past several decades, Charlton worked at St. Stephen's Day School in Coconut Grove, St. Philip's Episcopal School in Coral Gables and St. Thomas Episcopal Parish School in Coral Gables.

Charlton's final day at St. Thomas will be June 30.
