A recent study suggests that eating egg yolks is almost as bad for your arteries as smoking.

After surveying over 1,200 patients, David Spence, a professor of neurology at Western University in Canada, found that regular consumption of egg yolks is about two-thirds as bad as smoking when it comes to increased build-up of plaque in the arteries.

He concluded that both smoking and eating egg yolks speeds up atherosclerosis, which is a risk factor for stroke and heart attack.

The study also found those eating three or more egg yolks a week had significantly more plaque in their arteries than those who ate two or fewer egg yolks per week.
