WESTON, Fla. – A South Florida suicide prevention foundation is getting worldwide attention after the premiere of a new Jake Miller music video.
The singer and rapper, who grew up in Weston, wrote "Sunshine" in honor of his longtime friend Dylan Andrew Schopp, who died by suicide in February.
The video features home videos of Schopp through the years as well as a floating lantern tribute to the 21-year-old. Miller, who is now based in Los Angeles, returned home for the tribute at Markham Park, where Schopp took is own life.
The video for "Sunshine" premiered Wednesday on MTV. It was released on YouTube early Thursday morning, coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day.
According to Miller, there was an incredible response following its repeated airings on television.
"Wow. Dylan's dad just informed me that their email is blowing up from all the people all over the country. So amazing," tweeted Miller Wednesday. He included the link to The Dylan Schopp Sunshine Foundation.
According to Schopp's mother, the college student was nicknamed "Sunshine" by his high school wrestling coach because of his big smile and radiant personality.
Miller's music video shows that side of Schopp, while also bringing more awareness to an important cause.
