Hit-and-run driver stopped by witnesses

Man caused woman to veer off road, smash through fence

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was arrested Tuesday after causing a woman to crash and then leaving the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Ricardo Nord, 27, of Lauderdale Lakes, was driving a 2005 Hyundai Tucson in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 when he changed lanes and struck a 2008 Nissan Sentra, driven by Corinne Viscomi, 53, of Fort Lauderdale.

Viscomi veered to the right, left the highway, lost control of her Sentra and traveled through a chain-link fence, coming to a rest on the railroad tracks.

According to the FHP report, Nord continued driving but was boxed in by witnesses and forced to stop.

Nord faces charges of careless driving, leaving the scene of a crash, driving with an expired license and driving on a learner's permit.

Train traffic was suspended so that engineers could inspect the tracks. Service returned to normal after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Visconi was treated at the scene.
