Police increase patrols after Hollywood street signs with Confederate names vandalized

Signs related to Confederate generals blacked out

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Hollywood police are increasing patrols in the city after street signs related to Confederate generals were vandalized.

Police officers noticed several signs were covered with black spray paint Wednesday.

Some of the signs spray-painted include Lee Street (named for General Lee) and Forest Street (named for Lt. Gen. Nathan Forest). In total, eight signs have been vandalized.

"I think it's crazy, basically, that somebody would take the time to sit here and black out Lee Street," a resident told Local 10 News.

This all comes in the wake of the Confederate flag controversy at the South Carolina State House. South Carolina officials voted to have that flag taken down after the Charleston church shooting that left nine people dead.

Hollywood police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
