Cordero initially pleaded not guilty, but he changed his plea Tuesday. A judge sentenced him to four years in prison.

Cabrera was sentenced in December to five years in prison in addition to the time he served beginning with his arrest in 2009. He pleaded guilty after a judge ruled him mentally competent to stand trial.

About two-dozen horses were found slaughtered in 2009 on and around South Florida farms. Police believe whoever killed the horses did so for their meat, which can fetch up to $40 per pound on the black market.
