Hurricane impact windows foil thieves

Thieves give up after impact windows won't shatter

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Two thieves fired shot after shot into the sliding glass door of a Dania Beach home on Christmas night, only to find it wasn't made out of regular glass.

Surveillance video shows one of the men ringing the doorbell. When no one answered, he walked over to a parked pickup truck.

Moments later, a man wearing a tank top goes to the back of the house, holding what detectives say was a firearm covered by a towel.

That's when he reportedly began shooting, firing nine times into the sliding glass door.

But because the door was made out of high impact glass, it wouldn't shatter. The pair then began kicking it.

Neighbors say they didn't hear a thing.

At one point after the shooting, the video shows the two men sitting down, defeated.

When they finally left, deputies showed up.

The man who lives in the house was not home at the time. But his hurricane impact glass thwarted the would-be burglars who left empty-handed.

Police are looking for at least three men in connection with this attempted burglary. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
