Her sister, Helaine Elize, was killed when she was struck by an SUV while the siblings were standing at a bus stop.

Elize's husband, Jobert Valcourt, told Local 10 News reporter Shyann Malone that he called police after he became worried that his wife hadn't come home by 3 p.m. as was expected and he had seen the crash on his way home.

"I called police and they said, 'I'm sorry, your wife died.' So I have no choice. What can I do?" he said.

Surveillance video shows Valcourt's wife and her sister standing on the sidewalk along State Road 7 near Northwest 12th Street, appearing to be waiting for the bus when a black SUV comes barreling at them sideways.

"She loved to go to work. She take care of me," Valcourt said. "Anything I want, she give to me. Now? I'm just, I'm going be by myself."

Police said the vehicle kept going and struck two other people who were sitting on bus benches. The SUV came to a stop after striking a utility pole.

Witnesses said they saw two vehicles driving erratically, causing a chain-reaction crash. They said the impact forced the black SUV to slam into the pedestrians.

Police said multiple vehicles were involved in the crash and seven people remain hospitalized.

Authorities said one vehicle fled the scene. The vehicle is believed to be a red 2005 Dodge Neon with Florida tag HGK-S80. The car has a black trunk and black rims.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
