I-595 flyover ramp raised 18 inches

I-595 delays expected as work on flyover continues

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.Delays are expected on I-595 throughout the week as road work on the $1.2-billion Interstate 595 Express Lane construction project continues.

One lane of Flamingo Road in each direction at the I-595 overpass will be closed from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Friday, July 20th.

Hiatus Road at the I-595 overpass will be closed in each direction and one lane of westbound I-595 at Hiatus Road will be closed. 

The designated U-turns in both directions of State Road 84 at Hiatus Road will be closed through Wednesday, Aug. 1st. Motorists will still be able to make the U-turn through the signalized intersection.

Over the weekend, construction crews raised the flyover ramp from southbound University Drive to eastbound I-595 by 18 inches using hydraulic jacks. The bridge was raised 1 inch each hour and work was completed by 11 p.m. Sunday.

The flyover ramp from southbound University Drive to eastbound I-595 will be closed for 120 days, officials said.

The project will be done in 2014.
