'I gotta go and bury my son,' father of Lauderhill fish market shooting victim says

Victim's family asks shooter to come forward

LAUDERHILL, Fla. ā€“ Lauderhill police believe Gary Wallock was targeted Monday when he was fatally shot outside a fish market.Ā

The 34-year-old's family is coping with his loss, as they make funeral arrangements for the father of one.Ā

"I gotta go and bury my son," Donald Wallock said.

Gary Wallock and his girlfriend were inside the Lobster and Seafood Warehouse in the 1800 block of Northwest 38th Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. when the shooting took place.

Surveillance video shows a man dressed in red, waiting for Wallock outside the store.Ā  The shooter then ran up to Wallock and began firing rounds at him.

Wallock was shot 13 times and pronounced dead after police and fire rescue arrived at the scene.

"The suspect stands over our victim. As you can see he fires more rounds into our victim at point blank range which clearly indicates this was a clear cut execution," Lt. Gregory Solowsky of Lauderhill police, said.

Wallock's girlfriend, who police said was also targeted, managed to run away from the shooter, who took off in a blue 2010 Nissan Altima, with dark tinted windows and the tag number EZXF13.

The girlfriend is now under protective custody.

Donald Wallock has watched the surveillance video of his son's death, and said he is distraught .Ā

"It's hard," he said. "It's very hard. I canā€™t deal with it. I can't cope with it."

Valdene Beckford said she is heartbroken by the death of her nephew, whom she watched grow in Jamaica.

"He's a coward,"Ā Valdene Beckford, Gary Wallockā€™s aunt, said. "To kill somebody with 13 shots, you're a coward. He didn't deserve to die like that."

She said Gary Wallock came to the United States four years ago to open up his own barber shop. Ā He left a 5-year-old daughter back in Jamaica.

"He had so much great potential,"Ā Beckford said. "He was a good kid. He never hurt anyone in his life and for someone to gun like that. It's hard."

Wallockā€™s family said they're hoping that whoever pulled the trigger turns himself or herself Ā in to police. Ā

"Please turn yourself in. Whoever killed my nephew, turn yourself in. You're going to get caught one way or the other," Beckford said.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at Ā 954-493-TIPS.
