I-595 reversible lanes nearly complete

Reversible lanes set to open in March

DAVIE, Fla. – The Interstate 595 Express Project is nearing completion.

Construction on the project began almost four years ago. It's scheduled to open in March.

"It'll be a huge improvement for the commuters, especially those making a long commute, say coming from Weston or Pembroke Pines [and] trying to get to Miami or downtown Fort Lauderdale," said construction manager Paul Lampley.

The reversible express lanes will be open to eastbound drivers from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. and westbound drivers from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. during the week, said Lampley. They'll normally only be open for eastbound drivers on the weekends.

The speed limit will be 70 mph, said Lampley.

Drivers who use the reversible express lanes will have their SunPasses charged.

Tolls will vary depending on the amount of vehicles in the lanes.
