Motorcyclist dies in Interstate 75 crash, troopers say

Motorcycle lodged underneath cab of truck

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A 23-year-old motorcyclist is dead after a crash on Interstate 75 in Hollywood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash involving four vehicles -- a Yamaha motorcycle, BMW Z3, Volkswagen Jetta and tractor-trailer -- happened around 3:44 p.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Miramar Parkway.

Dagoberto Hernandez, 23, was traveling southbound on the interstate when he attempted to pass the BMW, lost control and struck the left side of the vehicle. Troopers said Hernandez was ejected off his motorcycle onto the outside line.

The motorcycle continued across the southbound lanes into the path of the tractor-trailer. Troopers said the tractor-trailer struck the motorcycle, causing it to be redirected into the path of the Volkswagen.

Hernandez was airlifted to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:26 p.m., according to FHP.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
