Injured manatee recovering at Miami Seaquarium

FWC, Dolphins Research Center, Miami Seaquarium team up for rescue

MIAMI – A rescued six-foot manatee was recovering at the Miami Seaquarium in Virginia Key after a boater struck him earlier this month, the KeyNoter reported

Jackie Krugman-Moore reported seeing the 350-pound manatee suffering in  the Key Colony Beach canal behind her home for about a day.

After he floated out of the canal with the tide, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Dolphins Research Center rescued him.

He suffered cuts to his tail and crushed vertebrae, according to the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon, Fla. A part of the manatee’s fluke had to be amputated.
