Investigators arrest man in North Lauderdale robbery

Man arrested after news viewer recognized him from surveillance video

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Investigators arrested a 42-year-old man accused of robbing a gas station and fleeing from the store.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. on May 7 at a North Lauderdale gas station located at 7100 W. McNab Road.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, surveillance video shows Christian Lee Fletcher, 42, walking around the store and browsing through the merchandise.

Authorities said Fletcher grabbed a beverage and approached the checkout counter with a dollar bill and loose change.

Fletcher asked the clerk to add a cigar to his purchase. When the register opened, deputies said Fletcher reached for the money inside and then fled.

Fletcher was seen getting into a 1994-95 gold four-door Toyota Camry, deputies said.

Investigators arrested Fletcher on Thursday without incident after a news viewer recognized him from the surveillance video.

Fletcher faces a larceny/petit left charge and a violation of probation for unrelated criminal mischief.
