John Paul Garcia arrested in missing woman's death

Suspect caught taking money from Larissa Macriello's bank account, police say

DORAL, Fla. – Police have arrested a man on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 44-year-old a woman who disappeared more than a year ago.

John Paul Garcia, 45, was arrested Thursday. Miami-Dade police said Garcia killed Larissa Macriello, who vanished in June 2013.

An arrest report claims $40,000 was transferred from Macriello's bank account to Garcia's twice on the same day.

According to the report, Garcia was also caught on surveillance video using Macriello's debit card to take $500 from her checking account.

Detectives said they also used cellphone records to link the two before Macriello disappeared.

Garcia voluntarily spoke to homicide detectives Thursday and gave conflicting statements that they said were disproven by evidence discovered during the investigation.

He was denied bond in court Friday morning.

Macriello's body has not been found.
