Judge Marc Gold suffers heart attack while vacationing in South Africa

Broward County judge unable to return home

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ā€“ A Broward County judge suffered a heart attack while vacationing with his wife in South Africa.

Judge Marc Gold suffered a heart attack Aug. 10 in Pretoria, South Africa.

Gold, 67, is unable to return home and has another judge handling his docket.

A woman who answered the telephone at Gold's office told Local10.com that the Golds were "waiting for a release date from their doctor."

Gold presided over high-profile trial of former New York Yankees pitcher Jim Leyritz, who was acquitted of DUI manslaughter in a 2007 crash that killed a mother of two. He is running unopposed for re-election this year.
