FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward Circuit Court judge set bail for a 17-year-old who's one of five teenagers accused in the beating and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl.
Judge Lisa Porter on Friday set bail at $100,000 for Dwight Henry, who's charged with two counts of sexual battery and two counts of false imprisonment. If he bonds out, he must stay at his father's house and wear a GPS monitor.
On Thursday, Porter set bail at $100,000 for 15-year-old Patricia Montes and 16-year-old Erica Avery even as she described the attack as exceedingly brutal. Porter watched cell phone video of the incident before the hearing, calling it "disturbing."
Prosecutors say the girls and three others -- Henry, 18-year-old Laniel Singleton, and 19-year-old Jayvon Woolfork -- invited the 16-year-old victim to a house in Hollywood, where they allegedly pinned her down and began punching and kicking her. Authorities say the group refused to stop until the girl agreed to have sex with Woolfork.
Authorities say the victim refused but was eventually raped anyway, an act not depicted on the video.
"I don't know what possesses young people to do things like this, but I've got to tell you that kids are capable of doing things like this are a danger," said Broward County prosecutor Maria Schneider.
