Judge terminates some conditions of Chad Johnson's probation early

Wide receiver pleaded no contest to domestic battery charge

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward County Circuit Court judge terminated certain conditions of Chad Johnson's probation early after he completed a course as part of his plea deal following his arrest on a domestic battery charge.

The former Miami Dolphins wide receiver pleaded no contest to one count of domestic battery in September 2012. Johnson was arrested on August 11 at his Davie home after he was accused of head butting then-wife Evelyn Lozada during an argument.

His plea deal included 12 months probation, a diversion course, and restitution for medical costs.

"He'll be placed under administrative probation, which means he won't have to report to court or do anything other than to stay out of trouble," said attorney Steve Swickle.

"I made a terrible mistake and I've apologized for it as many times I could," he said. "I think that storm is over now and the sun is peaking out and I'm looking forward to what's to come."

Johnson was cut by the Dolphins shortly after his arrest. He and his wife have since divorced.
