Jungle Island announces names of white tiger cubs

Ananda, Rama selected as names for cubs during social media campaign

WATSON ISLAND, Fla. – A pair of royal white tiger cubs born at Jungle Island have officially been named, following a social media naming contest on the park's Facebook page.

Fans selected the names Ananda (meaning Bliss) and Rama (meaning Goddess of Fortune) for the male and female white Bengal tiger cubs. Other options included Samudra (meaning Ocean) and Jyoti (meaning Auspicious Flame).

The cubs' birth was announced in early November. Each weighed a little over three pounds at birth but are expected to weigh anywhere from 500-600 pounds once they are full-grown.
