Kim Rothstein released from prison, sent to halfway house

Wife of Ponzi operator Scott Rothstein plead guilty to fraud

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Kim Rothstein, the so-called Ponzi Princess who tried to hide $1 million in ill-begotten jewelry from the government, has been released from prison and ordered to a halfway house.

Rothstein is the former Fort Lauderdale socialite who has filed for divorce from Scott Rothstein, the billion-dollar fraud artist who is currently serving a 50-year federal sentence.

Kim Rothstein pleaded guilty to fraud and was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison which she began serving March 14, 2014.

According to U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesman Chris Burke, while in the halfway house Rothstein can, with permission for every outing, look for a job, work, and even attend some social and religious activities

"We're happy she's out," Rothstein's attorney David Tucker told Local 10 News. "She can move on with her life and leave this chapter behind her."

Rothstein is set to be released from the halfway house March 1 and will then serve two years of federal probation.
